Intellectual Property (IP) Workshop with UK Patent Attorney Firm Mathys & Squire (October 2022)
This workshop presented by Mathys & Squire in collaboration with the American University of Sharjah Technology Transfer Office will cover the basics of IP, including patents, trademarks, copyright and designs. The workshop has a strong focus on how startups should approach IP, and is particularly suited to university students and young entrepreneurs.
About the Speakers
Dr. James Pitchford, UK and European Patent Attorney
Dr. Pitchford specializes in patent work in the physics, electronics, engineering and materials science sectors. He has drafted, filed and prosecuted a diverse range of patent applications, in the UK, Europe and internationally, including an appreciable number relating to computer software and communications technology. Comfortable handling subject-matter across a wide range of technology areas within the physical sciences, Dr. Pitchford has particular experience in the fields of optics, imaging techniques and image processing, optical modulation techniques, electronics and telecommunications, medical devices, electromechanical devices, power engineering, solid state physics, semiconductor devices, electronic substrates and joining techniques, surface treatment techniques, ceramics, composite materials and nanomaterials, computer software and data processing algorithms.
Dr. Craig Titmus, UK and European Patent Attorney
Dr. Titmus’ practice covers diverse biotechnological subject matter, with a particular focus on vaccines, diagnostics, gene therapy, therapeutic antibodies and peptides, and biofuels. Dr. Titmus has significant experience of European and international patent prosecution, and coordinates global IP strategies for a range of clients including startups, SMEs, universities, large corporations and the UK Government.
