Text, Context and Interpretation: Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Qur’an (April 2026)
Organized by the Department of Arabic and Translation Studies, this conference will convene a diverse group of scholars to explore the Quran in its socio-historical context, its relationship to the hadith, and the interpretive traditions or streams that evolved from the formative era to the present.
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Shuruq Naguib, Lecturer in Islamic Studies, Lancaster University, UK
Dr. Naguib lectures on Islam at Lancaster University, specializing in Qur’anic hermeneutics, classical Arabic rhetoric (balāgha) and gender in Islamic thought. Her work bridges classical tafsīr traditions and contemporary interpretive approaches, with a particular focus on the intellectual reception of balāgha in the post-classical period.
