Creativity Across the Curriculum: Why It Matters (October 2015)
Presented by Zofia Reid, AUS Department of Writing Studies
Creativity is most often associated with subjects such as art or design. We rarely, if ever, pause to think that the concept of creativity can and does transcend these traditional contexts. In fact, creativity can occur in any subject or realm, from math to engineering, from geography to astronomy and beyond. When one ponders upon this issue a little bit more deeply, it becomes clear that creativity in fact is essential to human progress. Why is it then that we are so intent on "killing" it in our students? Nurturing creativity across the curriculum is essential if we as educators are to fulfill our obligation to empower those whom we teach to become competent and significant citizens of the world.
