AUS hosts calligraphy exhibition
A calligraphy exhibition by Egyptian artist Hazem Al Mestkawi was recently inaugurated at the College of Architecture, Art and Design, American University of Sharjah (AUS). Entitled "Calligraphic Areas," the exhibition was inaugurated by Salem Al Qaseer, Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs at AUS, in the presence of Hisham Al Mathloom, General Coordinator of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial and Ali Shuhaimy, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management at AUS.
The Egyptian artist spoke of his work and explained how the messages relayed through his artwork were in harmony with the theme of Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial. "I was invited to have a separate exhibition because of my special treatment of Calligraphy or the Letter as a sculptor," said Al Mestkawi. "My sculptures are a blend of art, architecture and design, and the main focus is calligraphy or the use of letters," he added.
