AUS students complete Al-Maktoum College program
Five students from American University of Sharjah (AUS) graduated from the Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education Academic Training Program in Multiculturalism and Leadership held January 25–February 21, 2020, in Dundee, Scotland.
Through workshops, team projects and oral presentations, the program prepares students to work in a multicultural, globalized world, and helps them develop the knowledge and skills required for active leadership in the 21st century.
The program included lectures on globalization, Islamic finance, international politics and ethics, as well as discussions and debates. Educational visits to sites such as the Scottish Parliament, the National Portrait Gallery, Henley Business School and Ripon College were also part of the program, with each excursion destination linked to specific classroom lessons.
Representing AUS were Mariam AlSalman, international studies; Aisha Bin Al Shaikh, design management; Ghaliah Alhammadi, mass communication; Marwa AlJanahi, chemistry; and Nada Al Abdulla, design management.
Speaking about her experience, Mariam AlSalman said, “As students from a various set of educational backgrounds, from engineering to design, we will use this platform and the experience that we have acquired to launch ourselves into our futures to represent ourselves, our universities and our countries.”
Established in 2003, the Academic Training Program is open only to students from select institutions, such as AUS. The program is accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
