The Department of Mechanical Engineering at American University of Sharjah (AUS) held a chartering initiation of the AUS Sharjah Beta Xi chapter recently. During the ceremony, 18 students and two honorary members were inducted into the honor society.
Speaking about the initiation, Dr. Mamoun Abdel-Hafez, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, said:
“I am really glad to have this merit-based honor society established for our top mechanical engineering students to recognize their exemplary achievements at AUS. I hope that this chapter will serve to encourage our students to work hard and distinguish themselves based on their academic performance while at the same time serving their peers and community with their abilities and talents.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alex Moutsoglou, Secretary-Treasurer of Pi Tau Sigma, said:
“I want to congratulate all initiated students for being recognized for their exceptional scholastic achievements and impeccable character. Being a Pi Tau Sigma member is an honor and distinction bestowed only on the best mechanical engineering students worldwide.”
Dr. Maen Alkhader, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and advisor of the AUS Pi Tau Sigma chapter, also commented:
“I am pleased that we established our local chapter of Pi Tau Sigma, the honor society for mechanical engineers. This is more than a 100-years-old society and includes within its ranks world-renowned engineers who helped shape the field of mechanical engineering. From now on, our top mechanical engineering students will be inducted into this honor society to recognize their academic achievements at AUS. I hope that having a local chapter of this highly respected international society will inspire our students to excel in their academic studies.”
