AUS teams win honors in UOWD sports festival
American University of Sharjah (AUS) student-athletes won honors in the Eighth Intercollegiate Sports Festival of the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) held November 27- December 1, 2011 at Al Manara Sports Hall in Dubai.
The AUS teams competed in the volleyball, basketball, soccer and table tennis events of the tournament and won first place in women's basketball. They placed second in women's table tennis and in men's volleyball and basketball.
With more than 500 athletes from universities and colleges from across UAE participating in the highly competitive event, most of the AUS teams played in the final games.
"I congratulate our student-athletes for their achievements; they have performed very well in this tournament. This event was a good opportunity for our students not only to compete in sports but also to socialize and network with their peers from other educational institutions," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
The students' participation was organized by the Office of Student Affairs' Student Athletics and Recreation Department.
