Model United Nations held at AUS
American University of Sharjah (AUS) held its fifth Model United Nations (MUN) for area high schools at the university's Main Auditorium April 19-21, 2012.
The event was led by AUS students and supported by the Department of International Studies. More than 170 area high schools students participated.
The purpose of the Model United Nations is to give students a chance to experience the dynamics of the actual United Nations. By participating in MUN, the student gains valuable insight into the international realm of politics.
As part of the Model United Nations, each set of students is assigned a country to represent in a formal assembly. The most intriguing element of participation in an MUN is identifying the policies of assigned countries.
The main objective of MUN is for the delegations representing different countries to pass a resolution. The build-up to formulating a good resolution usually involves debating and making compromises with other delegations. The delegations that dedicate more time to researching their country's policies are usually the countries that are catalysts in formulating a plausible resolution.
The Model United Nations aims at illustrating the professionalism and work involved in the United Nations.
