Digital Experience Specialist-Part Time | Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing
Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Digital Marketing and Web, we are seeking a creative and technically skilled Digital Experience Specialist who can blend web development and content design to help deliver exceptional digital experiences across our web platforms. This hybrid role sits at the intersection of front-end development, user experience design, and strategic content creation, ensuring our digital presence is both engaging and purposeful.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical web development expertise together with the ability to craft clear, compelling, user-centered content. You will work closely with content writers, visual creators, and other key stakeholders to bring American University of Sharjah’s stories, research, and mission to life online.
Job Responsibilities
Web Development
- Build, update, and maintain responsive, accessible web pages and templates using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (and/or CMS platforms such as WordPress, Drupal, Hubspot, or Adobe Experience Manager).
- Translate design mock-ups and content plans into functional, optimized pages.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), SEO best practices, and institutional brand guidelines.
- Partner with UX and design teams to test and refine site usability, performance, and structure.
- Collaborating with IT or technical leads to integrating APIs, data feeds, and other dynamic content as needed.
Content Design
- Create and structure web content that supports user needs and organizational goals.
- Audit and reorganize existing site content to improve navigation, clarity, and discoverability.
- Collaborate with communicators, editors, and subject matter experts to ensure tone, accuracy, and alignment with brand voice.
- Use analytics and user feedback to inform content strategy and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience of Drupal Development.
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, plus familiarity with content management systems (Drupal, WordPress, or similar).
- Strong understanding of UX principles, accessibility standards, and SEO best practices.
- Knowledge of design tools (Figma, Adobe XD) or version control (Git).
- Familiarity with analytics tools (Google Analytics, Hotjar, or similar).
- Understanding of web performance optimization and responsive design.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams with diplomacy and creativity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment, deadlines and new challenges.
- Result-oriented, reliable, able to work under pressure.
- Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred.
