AUS Self-Study for MSCHE Reaccreditation | American University of Sharjah

American University of Sharjah (AUS) is undertaking a comprehensive self-study as part of the process for reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) of the United States. This self-study provides an opportunity for the university to reflect on its mission, evaluate its performance and identify ways to further enhance the quality and effectiveness of its academic and administrative practices. AUS has been accredited by MSCHE since June 2004. The self-study process is being led by a steering committee composed of faculty and administrators, supported by seven working groups that also include student representatives. The committee is charged with examining major areas of the university’s operations and academic life.

Areas of Examination

  • Mission and Goals
  • Ethics and Integrity
  • Design and Delivery of the Student Learning Experience
  • Support of the Student Experience
  • Educational Effectiveness Assessment
  • Planning, Resources and Institutional Improvement
  • Governance, Leadership and Administration

The self-study will result in a detailed evaluation of how AUS meets the MSCHE Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation and will serve as a  guide for institutional improvement in the years ahead.

The committee has developed a draft self-study design outlining the intended approach, scope and priorities of the process. This draft will be reviewed with the MSCHE Institutional Liaison Officer during the upcoming campus visit on January 15, 2026. Following approval of the design, AUS  will formally launch the self-study, building on research and evidence-gathering efforts already under way.

As the official source for information about the self-study, this webpage will be updated regularly with new materials, progress reports and communications from the steering committee and working groups.
