The Office of Institutional Research and Analytics (OIRA) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) supports evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning across the university. Reporting directly to the Office of the Chancellor, OIRA serves academic and administrative units, as well as internal and external stakeholders, by delivering high-quality data, insightful analysis and actionable recommendations.
Guided by the duties and functions outlined by the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), OIRA focuses on:
- Identifying and addressing institutional information needs
- Collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting data to inform decisions
- Contributing to strategic planning, evaluation and continuous improvement
- Promoting data literacy and effective information use across the university

OIRA administers institutional surveys to gather valuable data for planning, decision-making and continuous improvement. Please note that our focus is limited to administrative surveys aligned with AUS’ strategic goals and operational priorities.
At the conclusion of each semester, OIRA administers an Exit Survey for graduating students. This survey gathers feedback on their AUS experience, future plans and contact information for continued engagement.

We support AUS’ strategic objectives through the following services:
Internal Data Requests: Tailored data reports and analyses for academic and administrative purposes
External Reporting and Compliance: Preparation and submission of official data to government entities and ranking agencies, as well as provision of relevant data to support accreditation processes.
Analytical Projects: In-depth investigation of key issues to support planning, policy development and continuous improvement.
Survey Request: Guidance on the design, implementation and analysis of institutional surveys to ensure alignment with AUS priorities and data quality standards
Strategic Planning: Support for the development, monitoring and evaluation of institutional strategic plans, including the development, tracking and reporting of KPIs.
Administrative Assessment: Support in developing operational plans, defining performance indicators and creating tools to assess and monitor institutional and unit-level performance and effectiveness.
Workshops and Training: Targeted sessions to strengthen data literacy, build analytics skills and promote a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
