Dr. Patrick McClelland


Associate Professor and Department Head

PhD in Strategic Management, University of Kansas, USA

Prior to joining academia, Patrick McClelland worked in technology and strategy formulation for EDS Corporation and PricewaterhouseCoopers in Washington, DC, and independently with businesses in Italy and the UK. The focus of Dr. McClelland's research is the relationship between top management characteristics and firm outcomes. He has published in the Journal of Management, Managerial and Decision Economics, and the Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings.

Cindy Baker

MBA in Health Organization Management, Texas Tech University, USA

Cindy is a registered Project Management Professional (PMP) and has been working in project management for over 20 years. She has worked in industry as a consultant with Arthur Andersen, LLP and a project manager for Fortune 500 and privately held companies. Her client list includes, but is not limited to, Hilton Hotels, Sara Lee, and Sprint Nextel. Her project management experience is predominately in software implementations of Oracle products (PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Hyperion, and Brio) and Aldata.

Mrs. Baker volunteers with the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Global Congress Subject Matter Expert Submission Reviewer and in the Global Accreditation Center. She also served as Vice-President on PMI’s UAE Chapter Board of Directors.

In addition to the PMI Accreditations, Cindy volunteers with ABET to accredit Information Technology and Information System programs in Schools of Engineering around the globe. Locally, Cindy volunteers to teach English classes to non-native speakers on the AUS campus.

Dr. Rodrigo Basco

Associate Professor and Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid bin Khalid Al-Qassimi Chair in Family Business

PhD in Business, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain

Rodrigo Basco has taught in the areas of economics, management and family business in universities in Spain, Chile and Germany. Before joining AUS, Dr. Basco held a post-doctoral position at the Witten Institute for Family Business, University of Witten/Herdecke (Germany). His major research focuses on the field of entrepreneurship, management and regional development with special interest in family firms. The results of his research have been published in international academic journals such as Family Business Review and International Small Business Journal. He edited a special issue on the topic “Family Business and Regional Development” in the Journal of Family Business Strategy.

Dr. Omar Belkhodja

Omar Belkhodja

PhD, Laval University, Canada

Omar Belkhodja’s teaching interests are varied and focus on these areas: organizational strategy and policy, international business/international management, organizational behavior, ethics and social responsibility and knowledge management. His research interests include foreign direct investment mechanisms in developing countries, knowledge management and transfer within and between organizations, knowledge utilization, innovation strategies and technical transfer in SMEs, organizational behavior, and collaboration between university, industry and government. He has published articles in journals such as Science Communication, Social Science and Medicine, and Scientometrics.

Dr. Virginia Bodolica



PhD in Strategic Management, HEC Montreal Canada

Prior to joining AUS, Virginia Bodolica taught in the areas of strategic human resources, compensation management and corporate governance, assumed consulting roles in private and public organizations and delivered customized executive programs for a number of companies in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Her research interests are related to executive compensation, board of directors’ dynamics, behavioral governance and innovation and knowledge management. The results of her research have been published in academic journals such as the Academy of Management Annals, Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Business Ethics.

Tor Brodtkorb

LLM in Law and Employment Relations, University of Leicester, UK

Before joining the faculty of AUS in 2003, Tor Brodtkorb was an associate attorney at the New York branch of Shearman & Sterling. His research interests include comparative contract and labor law; discipline and dismissal in the workplace; discrimination and equality law, and the formation and function trade unions. He is a member of the New York State Bar.

Ahmad El-Assadi

Ahmad El-Assadi brings with him eight years of industry experience from elite organizations in the UAE such as the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), Waha Capital PJSC and Al Habtoor Engineering Enterprises. During his last post at NBAD, he managed projects with government and non-government entities in the UAE. His areas of interest include the influence of CEOs, TMTs and boards of directors on organizational strategy and performance, leadership and motivation.

Alaa El-Dien Ali Hamade

Alaa Hamade spent his early career working as an IT specialist and then managed the IT support team in two colleges at AUS. He worked with the Office of Graduate and Executive Programs to kick start the Sharjah Training and Development Center at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He then took on the role of web coordinator for the School of Business Administration, where he managed SBA’s web presence as a whole. He currently still fulfills that role in addition to being a management information systems faculty member teaching an introductory IS course. His research interests include knowledge management and social networking and media.

John E. Katsos' areas of teaching are business law, business ethics and corporate governance. His research and professional work focus on understanding and implementing the best practices of organizations operating in conflict and post-conflict zones in ways that minimize legal liability and enhance peace. Prior to joining AUS, he worked for the US Small Business Administration, the New York County District Attorney's Office and Occidental Petroleum. He is an admitted attorney in New York.

Dr. Linzi Kemp

Linzi J. Kemp has held teaching and administrative positions in universities in the UK, USA, UAE, KSA and the PRC. Dr. Kemp has also spent many years in management and sales in public and private organizations. Her areas of research and teaching interest are leadership (focused on women in business leadership), organizational behavior (cross cultural issues) and teamwork.

Dr. Savita Kumra

Savita Kumra

Dr. Savita Kumra is an Associate Professor at AUS. Savita has published two books on gender in organizations and diversity management as well as a number of academic and practitioner journal articles in British Journal of Management, Fordham Law Review, Journal of Business Ethics and Gender, Work and Organization. She has also contributed chapters in key texts within the field of gender and management. Savita’s research interests focus on diversity, the gendered nature of the career development process in the professional services and the importance of developing and deploying career enhancement strategies. Savita has held academic posts in Dubai and the UK and has consulted internationally.

Ali Khawaja is currently pursuing a PhD in Knowledge Management from University of Wollongong in Dubai. His primary teaching areas are business information systems. Valerie Lindsay has taught in the areas of international business, strategic management, and entrepreneurship for more than 20 years. Her research interests include international strategy, international entrepreneurship, and services internationalization. She has published in leading journals, including Management International Review, Organizational Dynamics, Industrial Marketing Management, and Journal of World Business.

Dr. Daniel Simonet

Daniel Simonet was a post-doctoral fellow at the Wharton School and Columbia University (USA), and a visiting faculty member and consultant in Asia and Middle East. He was a visiting researcher with the University of Venice (Italy) and taught Strategy at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). His research and teaching interests are in the areas of strategy, public policy and administration.

Jeff Singer

Mr. Singer currently teaches management and finance as an Executive in Residence faculty member at the American University of Sharjah. He has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in International Finance from Brigham Young University.
Previously, Mr. Singer has lead organizations for over two decades and he specializes in identifying new growth opportunities and turnarounds. As CEO of DIFC Authority, he broke growth records and solidified DIFC as the #1 finance destination for financial services companies in the MEASA region. As CEO of NASDAQ Dubai, he reversed an underperforming business and orchestrated a complex merger between NASDAQ Dubai and the Dubai Financial Market (DFM). He was previously Senior Vice President and Head of International at NASDAQ in New York, responsible for NASDAQ's global business development. Mr. Singer joined NASDAQ from 4R Systems, a technology start up, where he was President and CEO. As GM for SAP, he created a new line-of-business (Apparel & Footwear) starting from near zero that became a major driver for revenue and profit within a few years.

He has extensive international experience, having held positions in business as a marketing director, consulting in the high-tech industry for a broad range of organizations, and delivering customized executive programs for North American, European, Latin American and Middle Eastern universities and institutions.

Dr. Joseph Wallis

Joe Wallis has taught in economics, business ethics, leadership and public administration in South Africa, New Zealand and the UAE. His research interests mainly focus on the political economy of reform, leadership and public sector economics. He has co-authored five books and has written over 70 articles on these subjects.

Marie-France Waxin teaches staffing, training and development, performance management, strategic HRM, international HRM, ethics and human capital, and organizational behavior. Her latest areas of research and teaching interest are work, organizational and cultural values, expatriate management, talent management and Emiratization.
