Faculty Position in Design Management Regular Appointment
The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a regular faculty position in design management in the Department of Art and Design. The position provides an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and diverse learning environment with students from approximately 90 countries. CAAD has established a reputation as a leader in design education in the region. Its alumni have gone on to study at top graduate programs across the globe and have established themselves as experts in creative industries within the region.
Acclaimed for its academic excellence and multicultural environment, AUS is ranked among the top 18 percent of ranked universities in the world and among the top 10 universities in the Arab world (QS Rankings, 2026). With approximately 100 nationalities represented on campus, AUS is among the world’s top five universities with the highest percentage of international students (Times Higher Education, 2024). AUS offers 33 majors and 48 minors at the undergraduate level, 21 master’s degrees, and eight PhD programs. The university’s 123-hectare, full-service campus features experiential learning and research facilities, sports and recreational facilities, as well as student and faculty accommodations.
CAAD offers five undergraduate programs leading to degrees in architecture, interior design, graphic design, film and new media and design management, as well as a Master of Urban Planning. The Department of Art and Design also offers minors in design management, film, illustration and animation, photography and product design. Successful candidates are expected to assume duties in August 2026.
The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Design Management degree program and should be able to teach in two or more of the following areas: creative strategy and execution, design thinking, design research, strategic storytelling, user-centered design, service design, strategic design and innovation ecosystems. A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Design Management or a related area is required, along with creative skills, digital fluency and relevant academic and professional experience.
In addition to teaching, faculty are required to mentor students, engage in scholarly activities (which can include creative work, published research or both) and participate in service activities for the college, university and community. Creative work and research are important for the department and the university. Successful candidates will not only have access to excellent research opportunities but also generous financial support from the university to develop their scholarship. Applicants should have an excellent record of teaching and scholarship from a reputable university or demonstrate the potential to develop such a record.
