The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) provide a powerful aspiration and a shared global framework for building a better future, outlining what needs to be achieved and how individuals, organizations and educational  institutions can contribute to this transformational change. American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been a proactive advocate for the pivotal role that higher education institutions play in championing sustainability and climate action through education, research and operations. Sustainability is a core component of AUS’ vision and mission, embedded in the AUS Strategic Plan and every aspect of campus life.

Our university community celebrates diversity and is committed to open intellectual inquiry, ethical behavior and civic responsibility—values that form the foundation for a sustainable and inclusive campus. With 95 percent of its academic departments offering at least one sustainability-inclusive course, AUS equips students with future-focused knowledge and skills to empower them to drive positive change across industries and contribute toward a greener future.
