We envision our department to be a center of excellence in Mathematics education and research in the Arabian Gulf region. We are committed to promoting mathematical thinking in the wider community through various community engagement activities.
We organize an annual celebration of Mathematics, jointly with AUS office of Enrollment Management, wherein day-long math competitions are administered for individual and teams of high school students. Team competitions are also administered for high school teachers. The event, named MathFest, stresses the importance AUS places on encouraging students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. MathFest is held on campus and usually includes 75-minute tests that consist of multiple choice and written questions. The tests cover standard math topics from high schools’ curricula including logic, analytic and plane geometry and basic algebra and are carefully designed to stimulate and provoke critical thinking abilities of students.
