Department head's message

Our design students are trained to focus their talents not only on the appearance of things, but to question why things are as they are, and more importantly what they could be in the future.
Zlatan Filipovic

This is an ideal time to study design. In our contemporary, global society, we are interconnected by various challenges and issues. Designers provide and manage the creative outcomes society craves through skillful messaging via visual communication, graphic design and illustration, and innovative interactive and multimedia design solutions and more.

The Department of Art and Design provides you with an intensive, interactive, and collaborative learning experience which will challenge you to explore and discover new ways to interact with the world through design. Here you will learn by theory and by practice as we connect you with the broader UAE design community.

Our graduates are shaping and impacting the design world as both industry professionals and academics. We look forward to seeing what impact you will make.

Welcome.

Zlatan Filipovic, Interim Head of Department, Art and Design

This clarity is what CAAD gave me, along with a great network of friends and colleagues, a curiosity to always search for inspiration and to value the importance of the creative process, even in our fast-paced work environment.

The design management program focuses on every aspect of the interaction with a product, service or market as it defines user experiences. This gave me ability to develop skills and knowledge in management and leadership within design disciplines.

I think one of the main things that CAAD instills in you as a designer is to be a doer, to trust your gut feeling and to forever stay curious. The professors’ support has continued even after graduating. To this day they are available to help in every way possible. I’m extremely grateful to all of them.

After experiencing the variety of art and creativity that AUS had to offer, I knew I wanted to continue pursuing video making. CAAD has provided me not only the tools to further follow my passions, but also the luxury of time: to be able to figure out what I would like to pursue in life.
