Position Summary
The Cloud Engineer II will support the ICT and IT Security department by administering and maintaining systems infrastructure resources, with a focus on cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and Research/High Performance Computing (HPC) services. The engineer will also manage other infrastructure services, such as servers, storage, and associated operating systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with IT team members and business stakeholders to define business requirements and system goals, and to identify and resolve business system issues.
- Perform real-time monitoring of IT infrastructure to ensure service availability by taking proactive measures.
- Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the university’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
- Continuously assess, identify, implement, and maintain secure configurations across all cloud and on-premises environments to safeguard university data and systems.
- Collaborate with the IT Security team to analyze security alerts and remediate vulnerabilities within both cloud and on-premises infrastructure in alignment with frameworks such as UAE IA and ISO 27001.
- Research software and systems products to justify recommendations and support purchasing efforts.
- Create and maintain documentation related to system configurations, mappings, processes, and service records.
- Monitor and resolve IT Service Desk tickets assigned to the escalation queue based on priority.
- Manage both private and public clouds, including Nutanix, Azure, AWS, and Oracle Cloud.
- Configure, manage, and support the AUS Research Cloud environment: AWS ParallelCluster, SLURM Scheduler/HPC, and general HPC cluster design and operations.
- Manage various types of infrastructure environments, including storage (NetApp), servers (physical and virtual), virtual infrastructure (Nutanix), and backup solutions (Cohesity). Responsibilities include daily operations, patching, and routine maintenance.
- Automate and enhance processes wherever possible.
- Manage Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, SCCM, Azure Entra ID, and Intune.
- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using DevOps practices.
- share knowledge and technical expertise with team members.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in related field: Computer Science/Engineering.
- Certifications in cloud technologies (e.g. Azure, AWS, OCI).
- Certifications in AWS/HPC tools and services, like Parallel Cluster.
- Minimum of 7 years of Cloud management experience with a focus on HPC-related offerings like AWS Parallel Cluster, and other related technologies.
- Solid experience in IT foundation services (DNS/DHCP, Virtualization, Backup, Storage, logs management, and key networking aspects) and in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using DevOps practices.
- Software integration skills utilizing programming languages (Perl, Python, VB).
- Enterprise Server & Storage Management (CISCO UCS, NetApp).
- Microsoft Technologies, with focus on Active Directory and Azure Entra ID.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows.
- Knowledge and experience in patch & vulnerability management systems.
- Experience in Setting and managing an HCI environment (like Nutanix) and following technologies: Cohesity, Infoblox, and NetApp or equivalent technologies.
- Email services management, preferably Google Workspace
- Self-motivated with the ability to develop solutions through independent research.
- Flexible and available to work outside regular business hours, including on-call support as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team.
- Able to effectively multitask.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree in related field.
- UAE nationals are preferred
- Experience in integration or automation tools (Ansible, Boomi)
