Complex Manager-Male in Student Residential Halls
The Student Residential Life Department (SRLD) at the AUS Office of Student Affairs (OSA) welcomes applications by male candidates for the position of Complex Manager for the Men's Student Residential Halls. The candidate will be responsible for the recruitment, selection and training of staff and student workers for a new residential education operation that sets the stage for more vibrant residential communities. The successful candidate will oversee the creation of a residential curriculum and living/learning communities for students based on shared interests such as sustainability and First-Year Experience. Additionally, this manager will be responsible for managing an on-duty/on-call system in the evenings and weekends to support staff and student leaders. The Complex Manager will be required to live on campus.
Community and Student Leadership Development
- Facilitate on-going training sessions, development activities, and on-going development for Resident Assistants (RAs) and Desk Assistants (DAs).
- Manage recruitment and training of approximately 60 student leaders including Resident Assistants.
- Manage an on-call duty rotation to support a student community of 700-800 residents.
- Manage ongoing development of staff.
- Work with staff in the halls to complete a performance appraisal system for Resident Assistants and Desk Assistants.
- Create and maintain operating manuals for student staff positions.
- Collaborate and coordinate a sense of community for the complex, the overall residential community, and the AUS campus.
- Create and sustain living/learning communities for first-year students and beyond.
- Work with faculty and staff who are interested in forming living/learning communities.
- Work closely with the senior Student Residential Life staff in the assignment process in the halls to maximize the community development opportunities.
- Provide leadership for the execution of the residential curriculum (program model) to promote student development, a sense of community and learning.
- Manage the Hall Council and the Student Residential Life Committee so that students can have leadership opportunities in housing.
Student Conduct and Crisis Management
- Work with Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution and Safety and Emergency Management on awareness training for students and staff.
- Be responsible for interpreting and upholding the university’s rules and regulations by upholding the Student Handbook to ensure the developmental level of each student is considered when administering student discipline.
- Respond to crisis situations, such as medical or facilities-related emergencies, behavioral concerns and mental health situations.
- Collaborate and coordinate efforts with senior leadership in the Student Residential Life Department (SRLD).
- Participate and lead departmental functions, projects or committees, including, but not limited to, community development initiatives, housing operations management, staff selection and training, student discipline process, assessment and leadership development.
- Represent the department on university-wide committees.
- Participate in assessment plans for SRLD and OSA.
- Participate in staff training and development opportunities offered by Residential Life and other campus departments.
- Be an engaged member of the profession by being aware of current trends in student affairs and higher education.
- Be involved in regional and national professional organizations and, when possible, attend local, regional and national conferences.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1-2 years of live-in residential life experience with preferred emphasis in higher education
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem solving, crisis management, decision making and communication skills
- Master’s degree
- 2-5 years of live-in residential life experience with preferred emphasis in higher education
