The Department of Physics at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a full-time, regular faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing in August 2027. In exceptional cases, appointment at a higher rank may be considered.

Qualifications: Applicants with strong research potential in physics are encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, Materials Science, or a closely related field by the start date.

Applicants should demonstrate:

• A strong and active research record, evidenced by high-quality publications and clear potential for sustained contributions to the field.
• Evidence of excellence in teaching and the ability to teach effectively across different levels of the physics curriculum.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• The ability to develop and sustain an independent research program.

Experience with North American-style higher education is highly desirable. Experience collaborating with industry on applied physics-related projects is also highly desirable.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Establish and maintain an active and externally visible research program.
• Publish high-quality research in their area of expertise.
• Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students.
• Pursue research funding and secure competitive research grants.
• Develop national and international research collaborations.
• Contribute effectively to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
• Participate in departmental, college and university service.

About the Department: The Department of Physics at AUS offers a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a minor in Applied Physics. The department also provides service and general education physics courses to students across science, engineering and non-science disciplines. At the graduate level, Physics faculty contribute to the interdisciplinary PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), offered in collaboration with the College of Engineering and the College of Architecture, Art and Design.

The department currently comprises 14 full-time faculty members actively engaged in original research across a broad range of areas in physics. Faculty members supervise undergraduate and graduate research and participate in interdisciplinary and international research collaborations.
