Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic Chemistry / Synthetic Chemistry / Medicinal Chemistry
Post: Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic Chemistry / Synthetic Chemistry / Medicinal Chemistry
Position Summary
Both the PI (Dr. Imad Abu-Yousef) and the Co-I (Dr. Amin Majdalawieh) have research interests focused on different aspects of medicinal chemistry, synthetic chemistry, and drug design/discovery. This proposed research revolves around the preparation of a large collection of natural-product-inspired libraries with stereochemical and skeletal diversity, which remains a challenge in the field of phenotypic screening and drug discovery. The designed first-in-class, nature-inspired compounds will be tested as potential modulators of mitochondrial metabolism, which could lead to their development as novel anti-cancer therapeutic agents.
Job Responsibilities
- Design organic compounds that can exert anti-cancer activity via regulation of mitochondrial metabolism.
- Develop and design synthetic schemes.
- Perform multi-step synthesis and upscale optimization.
- Assess mitochondrial metabolism and bioenergetics using different methods.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- PhD in Organic Chemistry, Synthetic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- Synthesis of organic compounds that can exert anti-cancer activity via regulation of mitochondrial metabolism
- Fluency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven record of high-caliber scientific achievements.
- Experience in drug design and discovery research is preferred. An attractive compensation package will be offered
- Proven experience in chemical purification and structural elucidation of heterocyclic systems.
How to Apply
- Interested applicants should fill out the form.
- AUS alumni are encouraged to apply. Applicants who do not meet specified requirements will not be shortlisted. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
