Senior Officer Compliance | Legal & Compliance
The Senior Officer Compliance plays a key role in driving the implementation, oversight, and continuous enhancement of the University’s compliance framework. The role is responsible for leading policy governance, compliance monitoring, regulatory alignment, and institutional awareness initiatives, ensuring that AUS operates in full accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
The position acts as a central coordination point across the University, working closely with the Legal & Compliance function and senior stakeholders to embed a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and good governance. It provides proactive guidance, supports risk-informed decision-making, and contributes to the development of a mature, forward-looking compliance environment aligned with institutional priorities and regulatory expectations.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and drive the implementation and ongoing enhancement of the University’s compliance framework, including policies, Procedures, and internal controls.
- Oversee the central policy repository, ensuring robust governance, version control, and alignment with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and maintain mechanisms to track compliance obligations, regulatory requirements, and internal policy adherence across the University.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve compliance tools (e.g., compliance self-certifications, breach logs, registers, and monitoring frameworks).
- Plan and conduct compliance reviews, thematic assessments, and gap analyses, and coordinate internal audit engagements where required.
- Monitor, escalate, and ensure timely resolution of compliance issues, risks, and corrective actions across departments.
- Lead or support investigations into policy breaches, ensuring proper documentation, analysis, and reporting of findings and recommendations.
- Prepare and present high-quality compliance reports, dashboards, and insights for senior management and governance committees.
- Develop and deliver compliance awareness programs and training initiatives to promote a strong culture of compliance and accountability.
- Act as a key point of contact for departments, providing guidance and ensuring timely and accurate submission of compliance-related information.
- Ensure proper documentation, record-keeping, and audit trails in line with regulatory, audit, and institutional requirements.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in law, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of experience in compliance.
- Experience in a university, public sector, or regulated environment is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with policies, procedures, and structured frameworks.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Professional integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to manage trackers, logs, and compliance dashboards.
- Familiarity with policy management systems or compliance tools is an advantage.
