Ihab Amer

Professor of Practice

Dr. Ihab Amer held technical leadership roles in industry, including AMD Fellow. Earlier, he was in academia with the German University in Cairo, preceded by the University of Calgary, with research visits to EPFL and Xilinx. Dr. Amer’s work spans learned and classical video compression, AI and multimedia architectures, efficient computer arithmetic, and fault-tolerant and approximate computing. He has 40+ publications, 40+ MPEG contributions, 50+ patents, issued and pending. He received several distinctions including the AMD Innovation Award and ISO/IEC MPEG recognition. He delivered a keynote at ACM MMSys 2023 and tutorials at ISCAS 2016 and ICECS 2015. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.
