On-Campus Employment

On-campus employment offers wages ranging from AED 15 to AED 30 per hour. Students must meet the following criteria to be considered for on-campus employment. The applicant must:

  • be a full-time undergraduate student (enrolled with at least 12 credits) who has completed one semester at AUS. Visiting and exchange students are not eligible for on-campus employment through SEO
  • have a GPA of at least 2.2
  • have good conduct and social standing

Student employees can work for a maximum of 15 hours per week or a total of 60 hours per month. During academic breaks and in the summer, working hours are extended up to a maximum of 40 hours per week or a total of 160 hours per month.

Role of the Student Employment Office

All student employment concerns are processed by SEO, which has the following responsibilities:

  • educating AUS units and students about student employment policies and procedures and the online employment system through workshops held at the beginning of each semester
  • facilitating the student employment process by providing guidance and making information and resources available to both students and AUS units
  • providing students with opportunities for adequate training to prepare them for the workplace and to enhance their skills and help them become more productive
  • maintaining a current database of eligible student employees and job openings on campus
  • provide a platform for AUS units to announce for job vacancies by placing the announcements on the Banner form Student Employment Request-Job vacancies.

Role of the Employer

AUS units must follow the procedures below:

  • inform SEO of student job openings by sending a completed Job Vacancy Template for announcement on banner. A unit can recommend a student for its job opening but must ensure that the student meets the eligibility criteria.
  • complete a New Employment Application form online through Banner and submit it to SEO for approval. Upon SEO's approval, the student can commence work and access the online time sheet.
  • check, verify and approve student time sheets in the approval queue for payment processing.
  • inform the SEO when staff and faculty members who are a part of the SEO online approval chain are going on leave in order to avoid delays in time sheet processing.

Role of the Student

Students who meet the criteria for student employment should:

  • visit the SEO office or log on to www.aus.edu/osa/employment/job_vacancies.php to check for job openings. Alternatively, students can inquire from AUS units.
  • open a savings account with the on-campus Sharjah Islamic Bank, as payments will be made directly to the student's savings account
  • complete the online timesheet at the end of each month, and submit it for approval and processing
