CAAD students win first place at the Roca One Design Challenge
Two students from the College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) won first place at the Roca One Design Challenge competition, held as part of Dubai Design Week recently.
Priyanka Soni and Rima Calma, third year interior design students, were among 200 other participants from all over UAE that took on the challenge of creating innovative bathroom-related concepts in a single day. The aim of this competition was to promote the talent of young designers and architects and give them the opportunity to push their work forward as they embark on their professional careers, providing them with a platform where they could develop their creativity in a task requiring fast and intensive work.
The members of the jury based their evaluations on the creativity and originality of the designs, as well as their viability, while also giving credit for the clarity, legibility and graphic design of the presentations.
Both AUS students walked away with a first place ranking and a financial reward for working on a vanity space comprising a tilted mirror equipped with a motion sensor to trigger defogging, and a retractable sink with cabinet space housed in the bottom half.Roca, global leader in creating bathroom spaces, made its regional debut as part of Dubai Design Week, and garnered heavy interest from the nation's design students and young professionals.
