Exciting athletics orientation for new students at AUS
The Student Athletics and Recreation Department of the Office of Student Affairs at American University of Sharjah (AUS) held a New Student Athletics Orientation for Fall 2012 in the Sports Complex with participation from over 400 students on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
In her message to the event, Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, noted that joining various sports programs gave students a chance to relieve the stress of their studies, improve their fitness levels and enhance their athletic skills.
Munketh Taha, Director of Student Development and Organization, also addressed the new students and encouraged them to participate in various athletic programs. The AUS Student Council President, Hamdan AlMaamari, and other Student Council members attended the event.
The event began with a presentation by Dr. Mohamed Helal, Manager of Sports Programs, who gave a brief description about the various sports programs, available training sessions, procedure for joining sports teams and the process of gaining athletic scholarships.
Some members of the AUS teams displayed skills and techniques of selected games to the new students, followed by fun games. New students participated in the games with great enthusiasm and enrolled in tryouts for various disciplines and fitness programs. The students were invited to tour the sports facilities and were informed about the available facilities and how to access and use them safely. Rules and regulations also were explained to the students.
