Outstanding Recognition awarded to AUS Delegation at NMUN 2016

Seven delegates from the Student Leadership Program (SLP) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) were awarded the Outstanding Delegation Award at the National Model United Nations (NMUN 2016), held March 27-31 in New York City, United States. The Outstanding Delegation Award is the highest and most prestigious recognition in this conference.

AUS students represented Vietnam in seven different committees. The AUS delegation consisted of Hanan Arab, Hend Mitkis, Reem Al Nuaimi, Mehak Ayaz, Nasser Anwahi, Omar Khattab and Ahmad Azari. The award was announced in the concluding ceremony of the event on March 31 at the General Assembly Hall in The United Nations Headquarters. More than 2,500 delegates from 230 universities around the world participated this year.

"National Model United Nations was a life-changing experience. The feeling of working with the best delegates from all around the world and debating on topics that matter globally was like no other. The seven of us bonded well as a team, and for the first time in the history of AUS we brought home the Outstanding Delegation Award. The whole UN General Assembly applauding on our win will always be my best memory. The trip has inspired me and made me believe that if we set a goal and work patiently towards it then there is nothing that can hold us back from achieving it," said Mehak Ayaz, a junior student majoring in civil engineering.

"Congratulations to the AUS delegation on their outstanding achievement at the NMUN2016. It was a great honor and pride for AUS to be announced as a winner in the United Nations in front of 5,000 delegates. Our students worked hard to achieve this goal as they began preparations as soon as they were selected in October 2015. We are confident that they will contribute and extend their experience and knowledge to other students to help them prepare for various Model United Nations opportunities," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.
