OSA used book sale starts off semester

September 15, 2015

In order to support various charitable initiatives, the Community Services division of the AUS Office of Student Affairs organized a used book sale at the Student Center. The campaign started on the first day of classes on September 6, and continued until September 10, with over 30 student volunteers in assistance. The volunteers collected more than 1,200 books donated by the dorm residents, the AUS Library and the AUS community.

The used book sale was quite successful, with students happy to find the books that they needed at a very reasonable price and knowing that their contributions were going to charity. Merna Elmedany, an international studies junior and a volunteer said, "The book sale is a great opportunity to mingle with new students while working for a noble cause such as gathering donations for charitable projects."

According to Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, "The used book sale is one of the pioneer events of our Community Services division and it continues to be successful year after year. This effort provides multifaceted results: our students benefit from low-cost books, contributions go to charity and we help save the environment by reusing books instead of throwing them away. It has become a tradition to launch this campaign at the start of each semester. I thank our student volunteers for their efforts during the entire week. With their help, a good amount of books were collected and sold."

The proceeds of this event will be used for various charity initiatives and unsold books will be donated to charity organizations.
