Rania A. Al-Mashat
Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat brings more than 25 years of international experience in macroeconomic policy, sustainable development, international cooperation, climate finance and central banking. She currently serves as Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
She previously served for eight consecutive years in the Egyptian Cabinet (2018–2026), holding ministerial portfolios spanning tourism, international cooperation, planning and economic development. Earlier in her career, she served as Sub-Governor for Monetary Policy at the Central Bank of Egypt and as Advisor to the Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund.
Dr. Al-Mashat has played a leading role in advancing multilateral partnerships that support economic resilience, inclusive growth and climate action. She has championed innovative approaches to development finance and international cooperation, and has represented Egypt in major global financial institutions. She also serves on several international advisory councils and alliances.
She has received multiple international recognitions for her leadership and impact. She holds a PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Maryland and a BA from The American University in Cairo, and has completed executive education programs at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
