It is committed to addressing all aspects of healthcare such as physical health, mental health, wellness and health education for all AUS students, faculty members and staff . It is here to promote and improve the health of the AUS community.

In case of a life-threatening emergency, please call the National Ambulance on 998.
All students, employees and eligible dependents must present their Emirates ID when registering at UHS. Patient registration is completed through the Riayati portal. Access to your Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is strictly restricted to authorized healthcare personnel to ensure the confidentiality and security of your health information.
To request a release of information, you must sign a Release of Medical Record form.
* Patient privacy is a priority at UHS. All medical health records are confidential and cannot be released without the written permission of the patient, except as required by law.
Health education is a vital tool in fostering a healthier community by providing individuals with the knowledge and resources to make informed health decisions. At AUS, health education topics are offered to the university community through various platforms, including the clinic's digital media channels. These topics are aligned with the World Health Organization's (WHO) monthly health programs, ensuring that the content is timely, relevant and globally recognized. Key health themes that reflect WHO’s ongoing initiatives—addressing issues like disease prevention, mental health, nutrition and environmental health among others—are featured on a monthly basis. By integrating WHO’s monthly programs, AUS ensures that students, faculty and staff are equipped with the latest health information and are encouraged to adopt healthier lifestyles.
At AUS, we prioritize the health and well-being of our students. As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive support, we offer a Student Medical Insurance Policy that ensures that students have access to quality healthcare services during their time at AUS. All registered AUS students, including both undergraduate and graduate students, are eligible to enroll in one of two medical coverage options:
AUS has partnered with a reputable insurance provider, Al Buhaira National Insurance Company (ABNIC), to offer limited medical coverage to our students.
Students who change their visa sponsorship or obtain a residence visa issued by a different emirate during the semester must submit a copy of their updated residence visa to [email protected].
Consultation with a specialist and/or other doctors requires the student to obtain a referral letter from an AUS on-campus doctor during working hours.
If you live off-campus and face a medical emergency after working hours and on holidays, please visit the nearest hospital from the list of network providers.
Students coming from abroad should purchase travel insurance that covers the first 30 days of their stay in the UAE.
If you do not have medical insurance, you will be enrolled in ABNIC. However, we strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to cover you for up to 30 days when you first arrive in the UAE for medical emergencies, including hospitalization, and to allow time for your AUS medical insurance enrollment to be processed. Please note that your ABNIC medical insurance will only be issued after your residence visa has been issued.
Your medical insurance is linked with your Emirates ID card. Your Emirates ID card must be presented everytime you go to an external medical provider or hospital at the time of your treatment or visit. To generate an e-card that states your ABNIC ID number, it's recommended that you download the ABNIC app (ABNIC Health Vault) on your phone.

The medical insurance will remain active as long as the visa is valid for AUS-sponsored students. Charges will apply in full if the visa remains active at the start of the semester following graduation.
Non AUS-sponsored students will have their medical insurance canceled after their graduation date.
If the student is on Abu Dhabi or Dubai residence visa sponsorship, he/she needs to submit a signed No Objection on Canceling of Medical Insurance (NOL) form to [email protected] to complete the cancellation process. Without the signed NOL, your student account will continue to be billed for the health insurance premium plus any health claims you incur. This will result in a hold on your account, and you will not be able to receive your diploma or transcript until the hold is released.
Through this plan, students with private insurance coverage will receive basic services offered by AUS University Health Services.

Disclaimer:
It is required that all AUS students have health insurance coverage. Students who choose not to enroll in the Al Buhaira National Insurance Company plan must declare that they have a valid private health insurance coverage.
Privately insured students who enroll only in the University Medical Center coverage must acknowledge that this coverage only allows access to the American University of Sharjah’s on-campus health services. They assume full responsibility for their healthcare costs and understand the potential risks associated with enrolling under this coverage.
Students who enroll only in the University Medical Center coverage release American University of Sharjah, its officers, employees and agents from any liability, claims, demands, actions or causes of action arising out of or in connection with their decision to enroll in the University Medical Center coverage only.
Plan 2 – Students with Private Medical Insurance
Students who maintain qualifying private medical insurance and therefore do not require enrollment under the ABNIC policy will be charged the applicable AUS Medical Center fee and University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) fee. Students with private health insurance that covers UHS must provide proof of coverage at the time of registration. Failure to submit the supporting documentation within the deadline for review will result in the student being charged for the University Hospital Sharjah services.
