Assistant / Associate Professor of English - Writing Studies
The Department of English at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for several full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in composition/writing studies to begin August 2026. We are seeking candidates with a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, English for Academic Purposes, TESOL or a closely related field.
The successful candidate should have a strong record of publication, an active program of scholarship in their field, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Additional preferred qualifications include a minimum of three years’ experience teaching in North American-style higher education institutions and experience with international student populations.
Teaching responsibilities include a six-course annual load (3/3) in first-year academic writing and advanced research writing. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the intellectual life of the department and university through meaningful service, student mentoring, and participation in shared governance responsibilities.

The department is a dynamic and diverse community with wide-ranging teaching and research interests, including literary studies, linguistics, composition, and education. Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field
- Significant record of publications
- Demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching undergraduate academic writing
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of three years’ experience teaching composition or academic writing in North American-style higher education institutions
- Record of strong research and publication in relevant field, commensurate with rank
- Demonstrated commitment to writing studies pedagogies and curriculum development
- Experience with international student populations
