CEN hosts workshop entitled: "Intellectual Property in Senior Design Projects: Rights, Responsibilities and Commercialization"

The College of Engineering held a workshop titled “Intellectual Property in Senior Design Projects: Rights, Responsibilities and Commercialization” on October 27, 2026. Hosted by Dr. Mehdi Ghommem, Associate Dean for Research, Innovation and Outreach, the session featured Soumya Tiwari, Technology Portfolio Manager at the AUS Office of Research Services. The workshop introduced students to patents, copyrights, trade secrets, intellectual property ownership and invention disclosures. Participants also explored confidentiality requirements, permissions for public presentations and pathways to commercializing innovations. Practical case studies connected intellectual property policies with real-world senior design projects and potential commercial applications.
