Are transfer students included in the scholarships policy?
Transfer students with limited financial resources may apply for tuition remission ranging from 25 percent to 55 percent of tuition fees after the completion of one semester at AUS.
Does AUS offer scholarships or financial grants to students?
Yes, there are three types of scholarships that are available to AUS students:
1- Financial Grants: First-time students may apply, if they meet the following requirements:
Have received an official letter of admission to the university
Have limited financial resources
The amount of grant to be awarded depends on the financial need and academic qualifications of the applicant. Moreover, approved applicants planning to reside on campus in sharing or double rooms may be also granted partial assistance toward their residential hall fees
2- University Merit Scholarship: Newly admitted students who achieve a minimum average of 95 percent or equivalent in the last year of secondary education are eligible for a Merit Scholarship of 10 percent of tuition fees.
3- Chancellor's Scholarship (highly competitive): Newly admitted students may apply for the Chancellor's Scholars Award, which ranges from 75 percent to 100 percent of the tuition fees if they meet the following requirements:
submit an essay detailing extracurricular activities, talents, social activities, and anticipated contribution to AUS
outstanding personal qualities and leadership abilities in school and the community
scientific or literary contributions to the community
special school or community honors or awards
community service and school extracurricular activities
a minimum average of 95 percent or equivalent in the last three years of secondary education
limited financial resources
What are the accepted forms of payment?
Payments to the AUS cashier are accepted in the following forms:
Cash: Denomination of UAE Dirhams only
Check: Current dated, UAE Dirhams checks drawn on a UAE bank (bounced checks are subject to fine)

What are the housing fees?
There are 12 separate campus residential halls for men and women. Residence on campus is optional and only available for full-time undergraduate students who have paid or arranged for the payment of their room, tuition and other university fees. Other student categories may be considered depending on the availability of rooms. Accommodation ranging from private rooms to double rooms is available.
What is the maximum number of credit hours that may be transferred to AUS?
A maximum of 75 transfer credit hours will be accepted from a four year-colleges and/or university and a maximum of 60 credit hours will be accepted from a two-year college. The appropriate academic division at AUS solely makes the decision regarding credits awarded.
Can AUS students transfer to any other institution of higher education in the United States or another country?
AUS students may transfer toany other institution of higher education in the world if they meet transferconditions stipulated by the institution to which they wish to transfer.
How long does it take to inform a transfer applicant about the number of credits to be awarded?
Usuallyit takes the appropriate academic department two to three weeks to informapplicants of the number of credits to be awarded. Therefore, transferapplicants are encouraged to apply at least one month before the beginning ofthe semester for which they want to join AUS.
What is the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) required from a transfer applicant to be considered for admission?
The required minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) depends on the type of institution the applicant is transferring from. The applicant must be in good academic standing coming from a recognized and accredited institution and should meet the English language requirement. How many courses does a transfer student have to complete before transferring to AUS?
To be considered for admissionto AUS as a transfer student, the applicant has to complete at least onesemester (with at least 12 credit hours) in the institution of higher educationfrom which he/she wishes to transfer.
Does AUS accept transfer students?
In principle, we approve admission of transfer applicants. To be eligible for consideration for admission, applicants should meet the following conditions:
They are in good academic standing, i.e., not on probation or dismissed from the institution from which they are transferring.
They are transferring from a recognized and accredited institution of higher education offering learning experiences equivalent to those offered at AUS and have successfully completed one or more semesters in that institution.
Prior to their admission to the institution from which they are transferring, they met the AUS requirements for admission.
They meet the English language proficiency requirements of AUS.
They submit official transcripts of their high school and college/university records along with the syllabi and descriptions of courses they seek to transfer.
They achieved at their institution a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) as required by AUS. For academic year 2016-2017, the required minimum CGPA is either 2.5 or 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 depending on the type of institution the applicant is transferring from.
Courses taken more than five years prior to matriculation as anundergraduate student at AUS are not transferable. Furthermore, of the total creditsrequired for a degree, a maximum of 50 percent of the credits completed in residence atanother institution can be considered for transfer
Furthermore, the minimum required course grade(s) to consider for transfer is either a C or a B depending again on the type of institution the applicant is transferring from. The appropriate academic division at AUS solely makes the decision on awarding credits.
What are the procedures for applying?
If you are in your final year of secondary school, you may apply for early admission by submitting official grade reports from at least the last two years of secondary education.
Admission offered to those who apply early is not considered final until students submit the following before being allowed to register for classes:
A recognized and official secondary school certificate or equivalent, showing successful completion of secondary education.
And all other items as requested in the letter of admissions.
Students must submit the following:
Grades of the last three years of secondary education
Valid TOEFL score or valid IELTS score (if applicable)
SAT scores (If applicable)

Does AUS conduct TOEFL exams?
Yes, we conduct institutional TOEFL exams for AUS applicants and non-AUS applicants. Tests that are currently available include:
Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT)
Institutional TOEFL-ITP (paper-based)

If an applicant meets the admission requirements except for the TOEFL score or IELTS score, can he/she still join AUS?
Yes! Admitted students scoring between 4.5 and 6.0 on the IELTS, or between 400/32 and 540/79 on the TOEF have the option to enroll in a special program to raise their score so that they may enroll in the Bridge Program. Registration in Bridge Program courses is determined by TOEFL or IELTS scores and placement test scores, if needed.
Does AUS conduct entrance exams?
No, we do not conduct entrance exams. However, all admitted students who attain the minimum score or higher in the TOEFL or IELTS are required to sit for an English language placement test. The purpose of this test is to determine the level of English course in which the student will be placed.
Various placement tests are required by the different majors. Depending on their majors, students must take the placement tests according to the following:

What are the secondary education certificates accepted by AUS?
1- GC: National General Secondary School Certificates(Arts or Science): Minimum required average is the equivalent of 80 percent ormore in the final year national exam, or 80 percent or more in best two years.
2- HS: American-style High School Diploma: Minimum 3.0CGPA (or equivalent) on a 4.0 scale (only subjects classified as academic areconsidered in the calculation of the CGPA). SAT scores are also required.
3- IB: International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: Mustcomplete any six subjects, with at least three at the higher level.
8- GR: German Abitur: Minimum average of three required.
9- IR: Iranian Certificate: Completion ofpre-university year required.
10- BR: IGCSE, GCSE, GCE: For an application to beaccepted for admission consideration, applicants must submit a minimum of eightdifferent IGCSE/ GCSE and/or GCE subjects with four C grades and four B grades,or higher. However, priority in admission consideration and the selection ofmajors will be given to applicants who meet the following requirements:
- Complete at least 12 years ofschooling; School Leaving Certificate must be provided showing last grade(year) completed.
- Subjects must be from at least four different subject groups.Also, only subjects classified as academic by AUS (including arts andcreativity subject group) will be accepted for admission consideration.
What is the minimum high school average for admission?
To be considered for admission to AUS, a candidate must hold a recognized secondary school certificate with a minimum average equivalent of 80-85 percent in the final year of secondary education or an average of 80-85 percent in the best two years of the last three years of secondary school. However, applicants with higher credentials will be given priority in admission consideration.

What on-campus services does AUS offer?
AUSprovides its students with a variety of quality on-campus services including astate-of-the art sports complex, student cafeterias, a post office, a bank, a healthclinic, a gifts and memorabilia shop, a bookstore, and mini-marts, among others.We also provide free on-campus transportation between dorms and various universitybuildings.
How long does it take AUS to issue student visas?
The processing time depends on the number of applicants and the immigration response to visa issues and requests. The Public Relations Department sends a copy to the student by fax. The original copy is to be collected by the student upon arrival at the airport. International students are urged to send their Visa Request Forms at least five weeks before the beginning of the semester for which they seek admission.
Does AUS provide residency visas for its students?

Does AUS offer afternoon classes, part-time or correspondence programs?
All our degree programs require regular attendance; therefore no course can be completed by correspondence. However, candidates may apply for admission as part-time students. Part-time students are not allowed to register for more than 12 credit hours per semester.
Is there any office or agency that officially represents AUS overseas?
AUS approaches the community directly. We are not represented by any office or agencyoutside the UAE. Our Office of Enrollment Management conducts several local,regional, and international introductory campaigns to introduce the university.We participate in major local, regional, and international education, culturaland social events, fairs, exhibitions, and festivals on a regular basis.
Where is AUS accredited?
AUS is licensed and its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates.
The bachelor of science degree programs in chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering offered by the College of Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org/. The bachelor of science degree program in computer science offered by the College of Engineering is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org/. AUS was the first university in the Gulf region and the second outside the United States to receive this accreditation.
The Bachelor of Architecture program of the College of Architecture, Art and Design is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) of the United States. This is the first program outside of North America to receive this prestigious accreditation. NAAB is the only organization authorized to accredit professional degree programs in architecture in the United States.
The School of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
