Our Team

Sustainability  >  Our Vision  >  Our Team

AUS Sustainability was established in 2009 to integrate sustainability across all levels of our campus by engaging the collective brainpower of our students, staff, faculty, alumni and partners. Drawing from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, we work with all campus stakeholders to integrate sustainable thinking and action into campus operations, teaching and research. In 2017, a group of interior design students conducted their entire semester in the senior design studio remodeling the AUS Sustainability Office. From this, 90 percent of the resulting office was created from recycled or reused materials. The office is the first co-working space for employees on campus, hosting three staff as well as four student workers.

Rose Armour, Head of AUS Sustainability

Rose holds a Master of Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon and a BA in Natural Resource Management from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining AUS, Rose worked with the social Innovation Fund (SIF) in Washington, DC, an initiative of President Barak Obama in which evidence-based programs and interventions were funded to promote social justice and innovation across America. Prior to joining SIF, Rose worked with Peace Corps/Fiji as the Director of Programming and Training, training volunteers to address environmental and health issues facing the country. She also worked with Peace Corps/Burkina Faso, West Africa as a Program Officer for Small Enterprise Development focusing on the economical benefits of sustainable agribusiness and ecotourism opportunities within the country. Rose served as the Assistant Director for the Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) Program at the University of Oregon, working to increase the capacity of rural communities to improve their economic, social and environmental conditions. Rose began her career with the Near East Foundation working with rural women’s associations in southern Morocco to address environmental impacts through income generation opportunities. Additionally, Rose served with Peace Corps/Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa as an Urban Environmental Management Volunteer.
