  • Transient students are also welcome. A transient student is one who has already completed an undergraduate degree and is not currently enrolled in a program but would like to take courses at AUS. To find out more, please contact the Office of the Registrar.

IXO Application Deadlines

Incoming students to AUS for:

  • Spring semesters:
    • ​Partners submit nominations by the first Saturday in September
    • ​Students submit applications by the first Saturday in October
  • Fall semesters and Summer terms:
    • ​​Partners submit nominations by the first Saturday in February
    • ​Students submit applications by the first Saturday in March

Students applying after the deadline are subject to a non-refundable deposit of AED 800.

Cost for Incoming Students

Incoming exchange applicants will be responsible for the following:

  • The tuition rate for semester courses can be found on the payment guide. Some courses have a lab component with an accompanying lab fee.
  • Compulsory fees include the application fee (due before the application can be reviewed), health clinic and activities fees.

Courses

The schedule for spring courses will be available at the end of October.
The schedule for fall courses will be available in mid-March.

On admission to AUS, students may register for up to five courses (12-16 credits). View the course catalogs here. Not all the courses mentioned in the catalog are offered every semester.

Housing Information

Our campus has 12 separate residential halls for men and women, and approximately 40 percent of AUS students live on campus. Residence on campus is optional and is only available for full-time undergraduate students who have paid or arranged for the payment of their room, tuition and other university fees. Other student categories may be considered depending on the availability of rooms. Accommodation ranging from private rooms to double rooms is available.

Eligibility

In order to apply as an exchange student at AUS, a student must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • The student must have GPA of at least 2.75.
  • The student must have a 550 TOEFL (80 iBT) score or 6.5 IELTS (Academic) score.

The TOEFL/IELTS requirement can be waived for students (1) who have taken two English writing courses (in university) and passed both with a B or higher; and (2) who are applying from universities in the US, UK or Canada. However, if there is any doubt regarding the student's English-language abilities at any point during the admission process (based on spoken or written communications), they may be asked to take a TOEFL exam upon arrival to AUS campus and will need to achieve the required scores in order to maintain enrollment.

Required Documents

For an application to be considered complete, the following documents need to be submitted:

  • Official transcript. This should be submitted in a signed and sealed envelope issued by the registrar of the home university. No electronic transcripts will be accepted.
  • Enrollment certificate. Applicants must be in good standing at their home university.
  • Legible copy of the identification page of the applicant's passport.
  • Proof of English proficiency (see above under Eligibility). 
  • Letter of recommendation from one of your university professors.
  • Essay.  Imagine that you have successfully completed your study abroad experience at AUS. Write about the experience in a few short paragraphs.
  • Application fee of AED 300. The application will not be reviewed until application is complete and the fee has been paid. Please pay by bank transfer or credit card. See Methods of Payment. Once the payment has been made please fill out the Proof of Payment form IXO Incoming Application Fee and send it to [email protected]and [email protected].
  • Late application deposit of AED 800. If you are applying after the deadline you are subject to a non-refundable deposit of AED 800. The application will not be reviewed until the application is complete and the fee has been paid. Fill out the Proof of Payment Form, Incoming Late Application Deposit and send it to Proof of Payment Form, Incoming Late Application Deposit and send it to [email protected]and [email protected]. This deposit will go toward your tuition if you complete enrollment.

Important for Fall Semester Inbound Students

Study abroad students returning to their home university from AUS at the end of the fall semester will be allowed to miss no more than the last week of AUS classes. Please check our Academic Calendar for dates and make sure the timing will work with your home university.

Students remain fully responsible for all material covered during the fall semester at AUS, but also AUS faculty are required to accommodate their earlier departure (adhering to the above policy) in those cases where students can document a conflict with the start of the spring semester at their home university.
