GUIDELINES FOR SUMMER COURSES TAKEN OUTSIDE OF AUS

AUS students may be able to take summer courses abroad for AUS credit. The International Exchange Office (IXO) currently does not have exchange agreements in place for summer study abroad, so all summer students must go as Visiting Students, which means they will apply and pay all required fees directly to the host university.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to take summer courses outside of AUS, students must:

  1. Have completed at least one semester at AUS
  2. Be in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the time summer courses are taken at the host institution

Application and Credit Transfer Process:

IXO does not process online applications for summer study outside AUS – students apply directly to their proposed host university for summer programs, and work directly with the Registrar’s Office to ensure their program is approved and their credits are transferred.  Students must ensure that any summer program complies with all of the requirements listed on the Permission to Take Summer Courses Outside AUS form, if they want to transfer credits back to count toward AUS graduation.   Contact the Office of the Registrar, [email protected], for eligibility approval.

Specific Summer Opportunities to Consider:

Students wishing to take courses outside of AUS during the summer may browse the Summer Program Booklets available in IXO (MG50), for ideas. We gather a wide array of university brochures and pamphlets for summer programs.

Specific opportunities to consider include:

  • Center for International Educational Exchanges (CIEE), various locations
  • International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), various locations
  • John Cabot University, Italy
  • Kedge International Summer School, France
  • Stanford University, International Honors Program, USA*
