Active students at AUS awarded scholarships
A special ceremony was held in the AUS Board Room for seven outstanding students who were honored with Active Student Scholarship awards today, October 18.
The Active Student Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students who display excellence in extracurricular activities including community service projects, clubs and participate in the Student Leadership Program.
The scholarships for Fall 2012 were awarded to Student Clubs and Organizations members Nicola Elsayegh, Ashraf Hussain Sarkar and Mohamad Haidary; the Community Services volunteers were Duaa Zahi and Christian Momah; whilst Student Leadership Program awardees were Mohammad Mudassir Idris and Maram Dalab.
The awards were presented by AUS Chancellor, Dr. Peter Heath. Also in attendance were Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs; Dr. Thomas John Hochstettler, Provost and other senior officials.
"The investment that you are making now will pay for the rest of your lives," said Dr. Heath. "Being active students will lead to you being active alumni and you will find it rewarding in your professional lives."
The scholarships, renewable each semester, give the awardees up to 50 percent tuition remission.
