AUS and Dubai Police Academy partner to cultivate local talent
American University of Sharjah (AUS) engineering students will have more opportunities for internships and practical experience through a new partnership with the Dubai Police Academy.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed as part of the university’s College of Engineering’s (CEN) Al Nukhba Program, the Dubai Police Academy commits to providing internships annually for four AUS students, which is an integral part of their graduation requirements, enriching their educational journey with practical, real-world experience. The Dubai Police Academy will be training AUS UAE national students, contributing significantly to the cultivation of local engineering talent.
This partnership involves joint supervision of projects, including capstone and research initiatives, ensuring that students benefit from the collective expertise of both academia and industry, and resulting in a comprehensive educational experience that encourages innovative thinking.
Knowledge sharing is another vital aspect of this collaboration. Dubai Police Academy will actively share its insights and expertise in areas deemed crucial to AUS students. This knowledge exchange will significantly enrich the educational environment and cultivate a culture of continuous learning.
Furthermore, this partnership extends to the realm of joint research and development projects. Both AUS and Dubai Police Academy are committed to collaborative endeavors that will drive innovation, fuel technological advancements and address real-world challenges.
The MoU signing ceremony, held during the World Police Summit on March 7, was attended by Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of the AUS College of Engineering; Colonel Ahmed Mohammed Merdas, Deputy Director of the General Department of Training at Dubai Police Academy; and other officials from both institutions.
"As we embark on this great partnership with Dubai Police Academy, we are particularly proud of their commitment to nurturing local engineering talent. This aligns perfectly with our vision to empower our students and cultivate local expertise, shaping a brighter future for both our students and our nation,” said Dr. Aloul.
The AUS College of Engineering is renowned for equipping its students with real-world skills by fostering innovation, critical thinking and hands-on learning. Collaborations like this one with Dubai Police Academy provide valuable resources, bridging theory and practice for AUS students. CEN graduates are the preferred choice for employers in the UAE across all engineering disciplines, according to the QS World University Subject Rankings (2023).
