AUS and FIREX sign MoU to facilitate collaboration in research and fire protection engineering
American University of Sharjah (AUS) and Emirates Fire Fighting Equipment Factory LLC (FIREX) will collaborate and work together in areas of research, student internships, fire protection engineering, and community awareness initiatives. A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed today between the two organizations at a special ceremony held virtually.
Professor Kevin Mitchell, Chancellor of AUS, and Engineer Ahmad Hussein, General Manager of FIREX, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
The objective of the MoU is to equip students with knowledge and experience in fire protection technology; offer summer internship opportunities to the university’s engineering students; collaborate on senior students’ design projects that focus on the design and manufacturing of innovative fire protection equipment; and support community awareness initiatives organized by AUS.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Mitchell said:
“AUS faculty and students benefit from extensive collaboration with industry partners. The agreement with FIREX provides a framework for working together to advance knowledge in an important area. We look forward to developing opportunities for students to learn from professionals and gain experience through internships.”
Commenting on the agreement, Engineer Hussein said: “We are very pleased to be collaborating with AUS. This MoU aims to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the domains of research, summer internship opportunities for engineering students and other fields of studies such as human resources and business management, as well as convening joint events and workshops when feasible. As we continue our quest for excellence in fire safety, we see this collaboration as a step towards empowering lives.”
