AUS and ICESCO discuss potential collaboration in research, capacity building, education support and culture
American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) discussed collaboration opportunities between the two institutions in a recent meeting held on campus between Dr. Susan Mumm, Chancellor of AUS, and His Excellency Salim Omar Salim, Regional Director of ICESCO in Sharjah.
Among potential areas of cooperation are the establishment of an Educational and Research Chair to support a field of study or research at AUS; opportunities for student exchange programs and internships for AUS graduate students at the ICESCO Regional Office in Sharjah; development of joint academic and capacity building programs, courses and workshops; collaboration on research projects and joint publications; scholarship/funding opportunities for AUS students; and the development of joint programs and initiatives to support entrepreneurship and innovation in education, technology and culture.
Discussions also covered collaboration on cultural initiatives, such as promotion of cultural festivals and events; sports and recreation programs and events that promote physical fitness, social engagement and cultural exchange; art and cultural initiatives, such as festivals, plays and performances; co-organizing cultural events that promote intercultural understanding and dialogue between different communities; and ICESCO Regional Office participation in the AUS Global Day event.
“This discussion of potential areas of collaboration between AUS and the ICESCO comes at an opportune time as AUS embarks on a new stage building on its 25 years of excellence as a center of higher education and research. Our two institutions share the same values that focus on fostering dialogue and exchange and nurturing youth capable of contributing to the sustainable development of their communities,” said Chancellor Mumm.
Expressing his excitement for the collaboration, His Excellency Salim conveyed his enthusiasm, stating: "Engaging in productive discussions with Chancellor Susan Mumm and the AUS team has been truly thrilling. I firmly believe that this partnership holds immense potential to elevate research and foster cultural exchange between our esteemed organizations. We are fully committed to exploring joint initiatives, programs, and opportunities that will not only benefit AUS students but also have a positive impact on the wider community. Our collective pursuit of knowledge and mutual understanding will undoubtedly shape the destiny of our communities for generations to come. With great anticipation, we eagerly anticipate the possibilities that await us and are wholeheartedly dedicated to working closely with AUS to realize our shared vision. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Chancellor Susan Mumm and the entire AUS team for their warm reception and unwavering dedication to this endeavor."
