AUS appoints new dean of college of engineering
Dr. Fadi Aloul, Professor and Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been appointed Dean of the university's College of Engineering (CEN).
As he assumes his new position, he seeks to continue to enrich students' university experience and graduate professionals who have the skills and knowledge to contribute to the UAE’s vision of becoming a competitive and diversified global economy that relies on innovation and entrepreneurship. He also aims to strengthen partnerships and collaborations with alumni, industry, government and community.
Dr. Aloul holds a Post-Doctorate, a PhD and a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA (2003 and 1999), and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University, USA (1997). Upon his return to the UAE, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the American University in Dubai for one year, and then joined AUS in 2004 as a faculty member and administrator in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
A highly awarded academic leader and frequently cited researcher, Dr. Aloul became Head of the AUS Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 2016. During his tenure, he and the CSE team were successful in digitizing various student services, launching professional academies, revamping the curriculum, introducing state-of-the-art labs, building a strong alumni network, establishing industrial partnerships and promoting gender equality. Over the past five years, enrollment in the CSE programs doubled.
An Emirati researcher and scholar, Dr. Aloul has more than 140 peer-reviewed papers with expertise in cyber security, mobile applications, innovative education and design optimization. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
Dr. Aloul is the recipient of several awards including the Global Engineering Deans Council Airbus Engineering Diversity Award, Khalifa Award for Higher Education, Sheikh Rashid Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement, Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Young Arab Researchers, AUS Excellence in Teaching Award and many others and is a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academy of Scientists.
Dr. Aloul plays an active role within the community through the delivery of talks and media appearances, and the organization of conferences, competitions and student camps.
