AUS becomes first university in the UAE to join IEEE SIGHT
American University of Sharjah (AUS) has become the first university in the UAE to become a part of the IEEE SIGHT student group, a Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology. With the addition of the AUS chapter, the international student group now has a reach of 44 countries across the world.
According to Dr. Imran Ahmed Zualkernan, Professor of Computer Engineering:
“The AUS IEEE SIGHT Student Chapter will allow our students to be a part of a global community. SIGHT is not just for engineering students. We welcome and encourage participation of students from other disciplines as many of the world's development problems are complex and require a multi-disciplinary approach. We believe that our students should champion humanitarian causes and SIGHT will enable our students to practice 'development engineering' as a part of a global community of volunteers who are using technology to help underprivileged communities."
Being a part of the IEEE SIGHT student group also allows AUS to be eligible to apply for funding for its projects from the IEEE.
