AUS commemorates sacrifice of brave UAE soldiers

In memory of the 45 UAE soldiers who sacrificed their lives while performing their national duty in Yemen, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) Student Council and the university's Emirati Cultural Club invited the AUS community to observe a moment of silence to express their sympathy and condolences on the martyrdom of the Emirati soldiers. The gathering took place at 12:00 p.m., today, Wednesday, September 9 at the AUS Student Center.

Present on the occasion was Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of AUS; Dr. Moza Shehhi, Dean of Students; Mohammad Al Hashimi, President of AUS Student Council; Mohammed Al Kalbani, President of Emirati Cultural Club; AUS senior officials; and AUS students and faculty members.

Dr. Kjerfve expressed his sincere condolences and said, "The AUS community is really saddened to hear about the loss of the UAE soldiers and we send our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the martyrs."

Also speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al Shehhi said, "We pray for our soldiers who sacrificed their lives in performing their national duty. May their souls rest in peace. I extend my deepest condolences to our great leaders, our countrymen and the families of our brave martyrs."

She thanked the attendees for standing with Emiratis in this very difficult moment. "I ask you to pray for those who are still performing their national duties to defend our country and our people," she added.

Student Council President Al Hashmi also spoke at the gathering and voiced the UAE cultural club's pride in the UAE soldiers who are seen as heroes of the nation. He offered prayers for the fallen heroes.

"May God Almighty bless their souls and grant them rest in paradise," said Al Kalbani, President of the Emirati Cultural Club. "They are our heroes and represent what courage truly means."
