AUS Community Services launches Share the Plate campaign
After the success of the Food for the Needy project, American University of Sharjah's Community Services launched its new initiative Share the Plate to give student volunteers the opportunity to show their appreciation to the 90 gardeners who are providing students a healthy educational environment on campus.
On March 21, 33 student volunteers invited the gardeners that work at AUS to lunch near the gazebo area as a way to recognize the efforts the gardeners make to keep these areas beautiful. The lunch expenses were covered by funds raised at the volunteers' Used Books Sale in January.
Tanjuma Islam, an English language and literature student, said, "I loved the experience! The workers do a lot for us, and it was our time to pay back. Their smiling faces were the best part."
"We are fortunate to have caring and thoughtful students at AUS. They are well aware of the contributions and efforts of people around them and they are eager to acknowledge these contributions in their own way. The university gardeners deserve much appreciation from our students for keeping the AUS landscape conducive to learning and living. A humble lunch treat means a lot and promotes the spirit of sharing," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.
