AUS Debating Society wins honors
The Debating Society at American University of Sharjah (AUS) was declared the first runner-up at the Skyline University College Cross Fire Debate Competition held February 18, 2015. Tuqa Khalid and Kartik Ghande from AUS competed with students from seven universities. In addition, Khalid won the Best Speaker Award against the Motion.
"The AUS Debating Society is one of our most active student organizations on campus. In addition to various debate and public speaking workshops and competitions they hold on campus, they are also highly engaged in many external competitions. I congratulate them for another accomplishment, and I wish them good luck in their future events and competitions," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.
"The AUS Debating Society encourages students to enhance their public speaking skills. We believe public speaking is an important skill that an individual should have. This is especially important after graduating from the university, as it can help improve our professional careers," said Hussam Badi, president of the AUS Debating Society.
Cross Fire is an annual intercollegiate debate competition organized by Skyline University College. The event engages student participants in critical analysis of various current socioeconomic issues.
