AUS honors UAE Flag Day with unity, patriotism and solidarity
American University of Sharjah (AUS) marked the occasion of the UAE Flag Day with a two-day event organized by the Emirati Cultural Club, the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Protocol, showcasing unity, patriotism and loyalty to the UAE and in solidarity with the values of the union established by the country’s Founding Fathers.
The event featured a vibrant array of activities on November 1, including Emirati food, and a traditional seating area (yalsa) with board games, scavenger hunts and business start-ups by three Emirati students offering a diverse range of products, including books, abayas and coffee. Part of the proceeds from these ventures will go to the Tarahum for Gaza campaign launched in collaboration with the Big Heart Foundation to support people affected by the war in Gaza.
"As the UAE flag proudly unfurls above AUS, we come together as a community to honor the principles of unity, patriotism and loyalty. The activities on our campus mirror the vibrancy and innovation of this nation. On this Flag Day, let us renew our commitment to these values and our shared heritage. By contributing to the Tarahum for Gaza campaign, we extend our solidarity to those in need, embodying the UAE's tradition of compassion and global outreach," said Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS.
Chancellor Laursen along with other senior university officials, faculty members, students and members of the campus community came together on November 3 for the grand moment of raising the UAE flag.
“As we raise our beloved UAE flag, let it be a reminder of the strength that comes from unity and the pride we take in our heritage. Let us be inspired by its colors to strive for greatness and make our nation's future even brighter,” said Yousef Mansour Algargawi, President of the Emirati Cultural Club.
