AUS hosts 8th Intercollegiate Racket Tournament
American University of Sharjah held the Eighth Men's and Women's Intercollegiate Racket Tournament from April 21-24 with the participation of 14 universities from all over UAE. The tournament was held at the AUS Sports Complex and outdoor courts and was organized by the Student Athletics and Recreation Department of the Office of Student Affairs.
Two hundred and thirty five male and female competitors representing 47 teams competed in tennis, badminton and table tennis while the squash tournament was organized only for men.
Participating universities included AUS, University of Sharjah, Manipal University, American University in Dubai, Middlesex University, Canadian University of Dubai, BITS Pilani, University of Wollongong in Dubai, Emirates Aviation College, Preston University Ajman, Skyline University College, and Ajman University of Science & Technology.
The AUS men's squash team won the trophy, while the AUS badminton team claimed the runners-up prize and men's table tennis and tennis teams secured third place in their respective sports. In the women's category, the AUS women's team received runners-up positions in tennis and table tennis and placed third in badminton.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, felicitated the winners in her message and promised support in organizing more tournaments for budding players. "I am proud to see that AUS Racket Tournament is getting increasingly popular among universities with a substantial increase in the number of participants this year. Our aim is to provide a common platform for various universities with less opportunities of participation in such competitions," said Dr. Al Shehhi.
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of Student Athletics and Recreation, addressed the participants and gave away prizes to the winners.
