AUS introduces high school students to university life
The Achievement Academy Outreach Program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) organized two lectures on University Preparation Skills for Al Shola Private School students. The session for female students was held on Monday, October 22 whilst the session for male students was held today, October 24, 2012.
After an introduction by Dr. Thomas Alibrandi, Director of the Achievement Academy, Instructor Jessica March and Senior Instructor Aline Balian presented a lecture on the transition from high school to university. The topics covered included taking on responsibility and becoming independent, the importance of attendance and communication, plagiarism and how to excel as students.
The event was held as part of the Sharakah program under which AUS has signed Memorandums of Understanding with 12 secondary schools in the UAE whereby the university will offer workshops to teachers and students; offer patronage of selected research, cultural, social and sporting activities and events organized by the Sharakah partner school; award partial scholarships to deserving students selected from lists provided by the schools; and offer university preparation courses, including SAT and TOEFL preparation courses, as well as recruitment of outstanding students from varied sociocultural and economic backgrounds to AUS.
