The American University of Sharjah (AUS) sports teams, the Leopards, placed third in men's soccer and volleyball and in women's volleyball, at the 1st International Championship for Universities and Colleges (ICUC) held in Belgium recently.
Over a thousand student-athletes participated in the ICUC, a four-day international sports and cultural event in Leuven. The competition included men's soccer, volleyball, basketball and swimming and women's volleyball, basketball and swimming.
Participating collages included AUS, Catholic University of Leuven, American University of Paris, American College of Greece, American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University Beirut, Lebanese American University Byblos, and University of Balamand.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, had a pre-departure meeting with the delegation, where she encouraged the athletes to play well and make the most of the opportunity by interacting with the other teams.
"We offer our students a diverse range of extracurricular programs for them to benefit and enjoy. Regional and international participation strengthens our partnerships with other institutions, and provides a platform for our students to network with their peers from other institutions," she said.
The AUS participation in the ICUC was organized by the Office of Student Affairs' Student Athletics and Recreation Department.
Accompanying the teams were members of the AUS Student Council, sports coaches, Munketh Taha, Director of Student Development and Organizations and Dr. Mohamed Helal, Manager of Sports Programs.
