AUS men’s swimming team wins intercollegiate swimming competition
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) men's swimming team placed first at the Fifth AUS Men's Intercollegiate Swimming Competition held at the university. In second and third place were the University of Sharjah and Emirates Aviation University, respectively. This is the fifth time the AUS team has placed first in this competition.
AUS swimmers headed the medal tally with eight gold, three silver and three bronze medals. Winners included Talmir Ishmukhametov and Taher Arafa, who secured first place in the 50 and 100 meter free style and backstroke races respectively. Amr Mohamed secured third place in the 50 and 100 meters breaststroke, and Khaled Abdulghani finished second in 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter butterfly. Abdelrahman Rawaizak won silver in 50 meter freestyle and a bronze in the 50 meter backstroke. Ishmukhametov then enthralled the spectators by becoming the fastest 50 meter sprinter in freestyle with a timing of 25:89 seconds.
In the medley relay, AUS swimmers kept their archrivals University of Sharjah well behind and claimed first place.
Participating universities were AUS, University of Sharjah, Emirates Aviation University, American University of Ras Al Khaimah, Canadian University in Dubai and Higher Colleges of Technology, Sharjah.
Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of the Student Athletics and Recreation Department, distributed the trophies and medals to the winners. Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, congratulated all winners. "We are very happy at your great achievement in the Eurocommillas Madrid during the last international competition, and today's win will be a great stepping stone in targeting more glory in upcoming competitions" said Dr. Al Shehhi in absentia.
