AUS mourns the loss of trustee William Hodges Mobley

The Board of Trustees of American University of Sharjah (AUS), along with the faculty, staff, students and alumni of the university, express their sorrow at the passing of former Trustee Dr. William Hodges Mobley, who served as President of Texas A&M University (1988–1993) and Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System (1993–1994).

Speaking on the occasion of Dr. Mobley’s sad passing, AUS Chancellor Kevin Mitchell said:

“During his tenure as a member of the AUS Board of Trustees, Dr. Mobley contributed to advancing the mission of the university. AUS benefitted from Dr. Mobley’s experience as an academic leader and his extensive knowledge of the global factors affecting higher education.”

Dr. Mobley graduated from Denison University in 1963. He served as head of human resources research and succession planning for PPG Industries from 1964 to 1967 before earning his doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Maryland in 1971. Dr. Mobley was an honorary professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and received honorary degrees from the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico and the University of Akron. He served as a senior Fulbright professor at National Taiwan University, visiting professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, visiting chair professor at the University of Macau, and was a visiting fellow at Cornell University. In 2015, Dr. Mobley was honored with a Distinguished Psychologist in Management award by the Society of Psychologists in Management.
